Biography

Chuyen Hong Huu Le is a partner in the corporate and commercial group of Tilleke & Gibbins’ Ho Chi Minh City office. Chuyen frequently handles matters related to labor and employment, foreign investment, corporate services, hospitality, and commercial transactions and M&A. Chuyen has particular expertise in the sectors of healthcare (including pharmaceuticals, medtech and consumer health) and consumer products, where she has advised many top multinational companies on doing business in Vietnam. She also has extensive experience in the aviation sector, and assists clients with aircraft leasing/financing, aircraft-related interest registrations, and repossession.

Chuyen is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional – International (CCEP-I) and is regularly engaged by companies to conduct compliance investigations and audits, as well as to provide compliance training sessions for staff and business partners. She also handles anti-corruption and competition matters. Chuyen has built extensive in-house experience through secondments as chief legal counsel in Vietnam for the world’s largest three-sector healthcare company, and as an in-house counsel for Vietnam at a world-leading medical device company operating in orthodontics.

In 2023, Chuyen was named to the inaugural Asian Legal Business “Vietnam Rising Stars” list, highlighting outstanding lawyers under the age of 40. In 2021, she was recognized in Euromoney’s Rising Stars Awards Asia-Pacific. She is a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association and serves as a guest lecturer for Vietnam’s Judicial Academy, training recent law-school graduates pursuing professional legal careers.

Experience

  • Advised three of the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical companies and two of the world’s largest medical device companies as external counsel in Vietnam.
  • Served on secondment for six months as chief legal counsel in Vietnam for the world’s largest three-sector healthcare company, filling a temporary vacancy in the position. Was responsible for all legal matters of the company’s entities in Vietnam, including drafting and reviewing contracts with service providers and employees; advising on numerous regulatory and legal issues; and reviewing training materials and company policies.
  • Advised multiple foreign pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam on business structuring options for compliance with new pharmaceutical regulations, and advised on setting up wholly owned drug import subsidiaries in Vietnam.
  • Assisted with the establishment of several foreign-invested companies in Vietnam, including advising on and assisting with lease agreements for office premises, workshops, and land. Following successful set-up, continued to advise on matters related to ongoing business operations.
  • Advised on anti-corruption and antitrust for many foreign companies in Vietnam.
  • Advised a leading U.S. non-profit organization in registration of its activity in Vietnam.
  • Advised several companies (including one of China’s largest electronics and software companies) on the business environment in Vietnam, including obligations of importers, manufacturers, and distributors in cases of product recall or customer complaints.
  • Assisted a state-owned company with negotiation and finalization of the terms and conditions of a hotel management agreement with a Japanese company for a landmark luxury hotel.
  • Advised one of the world’s largest clothing manufacturers on its new manufacturing plant project in Vietnam.
  • Advised several clients (including a state-owned transportation corporation) on labor aspects regarding recruitment, management, and internal policies.
  • Advised a leading U.S.-based transportation corporation on feasible investment forms to invest in and set up a seaport in Vietnam.
  • Advised a world-leading movie production company on commercial contracts regarding the production of a short film made in Vietnam.
  • Advised a top U.S. restaurant franchise on an advertising and media contract with a Vietnamese media corporation and advised on the partnership structure of a Vietnamese media corporation to establish and operate a TV channel.
  • Provided opinions on resolving disputes between companies and their employees, investors of joint-venture companies, members of limited liabilities companies, and shareholders of joint-stock companies.
  • Advised on aviation and aircraft leasing arrangements for the world’s largest aircraft financing and leasing companies.
