Dat Thanh Nguyen is a patent executive in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Hanoi office. Dat specializes in information technology and electronics, having spent more than 10 years prosecuting patent applications in these fields from the pre-filing to post-granting stages. He has also handled mechanical and chemical patents. During this time, he prosecuted more than 700 patent applications.

Dat holds a Bachelor of Information Technology from the Hanoi University of Technology. He also received a Diploma in Software Engineering, with distinction, from FPT-Aptech. After graduating from university, he worked for one year as a software developer for FPT Software, one of Vietnam’s top IT companies. Dat then spent several years working at a top IP law firm. He has also completed a training course in patent drafting techniques that was organized by the European Patent Office and the NOIP. Dat speaks both Vietnamese and English.

  • Handled more than 700 patent applications in the IT, electronics, telecommunications, mechanical, and chemistry fields, among other areas.

  • Handled patent applications from the pre-filing to post-granting stages, such as advising before filing, translating the specification into Vietnamese, filing applications, reporting and responding to the formality and substantive office actions, advising on appeals, handling payments for annuities, and amending/assigning during the prosecution and after grant.

  • Managed patents for a top Korean electronics company and several top European electronics companies.

  • Advised a client on pursuing an invention related to betting (betting machine) by filing an appeal to the Director of the NOIP.
