The National Legislative Assembly recently passed a bill amending the Civil Procedure Code to allow for class action legal proceedings in Thailand. The bill has received royal endorsement, and it will become effective in December 2015. While litigation prospects in Thailand are potentially more limited than those in other jurisdictions, such as North America, the legislation is nevertheless expected to have a significant impact on business operators.
Aaron Le Marquer and David Lawrence, consultants in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution and litigation group, will discuss these issues and more at “Countering the Risks of Class Actions: What Every Company Needs to Know about a New Litigation Threat – And How to Protect Against It,” a Thailand Regional and Corporate Finance Forum hosted by Dataconsult.
Aaron will discuss Thailand’s new class actions law, covering issues such as class actions in the United States and elsewhere, the background of the new Thailand legislation, and the scope of applications. David will present a series of case studies which touch on general product liability, the environment, pharmaceuticals, false advertising, misrepresentation, data and privacy protection, and trends.
The forum will be held on August 27 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Bangkok Club. Aaron will speak from 8 a.m. to 8.20 a.m., and David will present from 8.20 a.m. to 9 a.m. If you would like to learn more about this event, please visit the Dataconsult website.
