The latest issue of Asia Franchise & Business Opportunities  magazine features an article by two of Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property specialists in Bangkok. Written by Alan Adcock, partner and deputy director of the firm’s IP group, and Sher Hann Chua, a consultant in the firm’s Bangkok and Yangon offices, the article discusses the issuing in recent months of trade competition guidelines for franchises businesses in Thailand.

These guidelines, which represent the first statutory or regulatory definition of a franchise business according to Thai law, are a welcome addition for operators in the increasingly popular Thai franchising market. The article covers the guidelines’ various disclosure requirements, obligatory and prohibited business practices, and applicability to existing franchises.
