Rochmali Zultan assists both local and international clients in a full range of trademark matters in Indonesia. He is particularly adept at representing clients in trademark searches, registration, prosecution, assignments, oppositions, cancellations, watch services, and renewals. He also provides insightful assistance to clients on the commercialization of their IP rights, providing opinions, acting in licensing and distribution negotiations, and strategizing with clients on franchising and other avenues of commercialization.
Rochmali has nearly a decade of experience working in some of Indonesia’s most highly-regarded intellectual property boutiques, building on his strong academic background in IP law. He is a visiting lecturer on intellectual property at the Faculty of Law at Sebelas Maret University, a registered advocate, and a member of the Indonesian Advocate Association (PERADI), and a registered IP Consultant.
- Assisted a well-known zipper producer to successfully enforce its trademark against a local infringer who tried to register a similar mark. The local applicant finally agreed to withdraw his application and agreed to remove all the products bearing the infringing mark.
- Represented a US jeans manufacturer in an infringement case against a local jeans manufacturer which was found to be using similar stitching on their products. The dispute was resolved by settlement, in which the infringer agreed to withdraw every product that used the stitching, and remove all infringing products from market.
- Advised clients on trademark availability and applications, both in Indonesia and overseas.
- Conducted preliminary investigations, drafted cease-and-desist letters, and advised clients on potential infringement of their trademarks in Jakarta.
