Adirek Siriwattasit is a consultant at Tilleke & Gibbins' intellectual property department in Bangkok. With a keen understanding of patent laws and regulations, he assists local and multinational clients in effectively navigating the patent life cycle. Adirek’s expertise in this area ranges from conducting patentability searches and drafting patent applications to managing patent, petty patent, and design patent prosecution in Thailand and abroad. His diverse knowledge in information technology, mechanics, and chemistry also makes him a sought-after advisor on freedom-to-operate (FTO) searches and patent prosecutions, relating to the technical fields of computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals.
Leveraging his additional background in corporate management and statistics, Adirek can further perform in-depth legal data analysis and research, as well as tailor his legal counsel to align with each client’s unique business needs and strategies.
Adirek graduated with an LLB from Northumbria University, where he was the recipient of the London College of Legal Studies award for Best Undergraduate Performance. He also holds an MBA in Finance and a BSc in Business Informatics from AMA International University.
- Prepared a comprehensive legal memorandum on the applicability of prior art and prior user right defenses against patent infringement claims in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, China, and Japan for a prominent Thai petrochemical company.
- Assisted in conducting an international FTO search on a rectal pharmaceutical formulation and generated a related search report for a joint research organization of major universities in the United Kingdom and Thailand, enabling the organization to acquire the necessary funding for performing clinical trials of the formulation.
- Conducted a national assessment for an international intellectual property (IP) organization as the quantitative basis for a 90-page research report that offered extensive analyses and insights on the use of the IP system by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand and mapped the local institutions that provide support to these SMEs.
- Drafted a patent specification for a complex AI-implemented invention for a technology startup in Thailand, and filed the completed specification as an international PCT application, with a favorable written opinion issued for the application by the European Patent Office.
- Drafted several petty patent specifications in the field of mechanical engineering for a leading Japanese manufacturer of agricultural machinery, and filed their respective applications with the Thai Patent Office—all of which have proceeded to publication and grant.
- Advised clients from the technology and pharmaceutical sectors on the patentability of various computer-related inventions and first/second medical uses of pharmaceutical compositions in respect of Thai patent laws and regulations.
- Managed and facilitated the filing and successful registration of numerous patents, petty patents, and designs with the Thai Department of Intellectual Property on behalf of clients from Japan, China, South Korea, the United States, and the European Union.
- Reviewed and revised the technical translations of patent claims and specifications for a major chemical manufacturing and supply company in India under tight deadlines to ensure the smooth registration of their patent applications.
- Analyzed, translated, and interpreted office actions for clients representing a wide range of industries.
