Giang Thi Huong Tran is a senior associate with the Tilleke & Gibbins corporate and commercial team in Hanoi, specializing in technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT). Giang regularly advises clients across industry sectors in areas including data privacy, telecom, media and broadcasting, online gaming, e-commerce, and more.
With over two decades of experience, Giang has served extensively as a bridge between foreign clients and agencies and the Vietnamese legal system. Prior to joining Tilleke & Gibbins, she worked as a legal advisor to Bower Group Asia and the USAID STAR project. She was also previously employed as an officer in the Telecommunication Department of Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communication, where she played a role in developing many of Vietnam’s laws and policies in the TMT fields. In recognition of her dedication and outstanding achievements, she has been awarded a medal and several certificates of merit by Vietnamese state bodies.
Giang earned her LLB at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, after winning a competitive AusAID scholarship.
- Advised a world leading gaming platform and a leading global social live-streaming platform on the regulatory impacts affecting the provision of app store, online gaming, and social network services.
- Advised a pay-TV service platform owned by one of China’s largest tech companies on the regulatory impact of internet service and online information regulations on its service provision.
- Advised a leading multinational technology, social media, gaming, and entertainment company on regulations related to cloud computing, social networks, OTT telecom, and network information security services.
- Advised a global premier mixed martial arts company on online brokerage services with respect to contracts for difference (CFDs).
- Advised a leading global provider of IT infrastructure solutions, cloud computing, and network security on various regulatory aspects of telecom service provision, including licensing and resale of telecom services, cloud computing and data center service operations, personal data protection, and network information security services.
- Advised numerous companies on various aspects of data protection regulations, including consent requirements, impact assessments for data processing and international transfers, data localization, information security, and handling data breaches, among others.
- Participated in national and international projects related to information, communication, and technology, including developing Vietnam’s Law on Information Technology, Law on Electronic Transactions, Decree on Digital Signature and Certification Services, Law on Standards and Technical Regulations, and other legislation.
- Provided comments on many laws and regulations relating to Vietnam’s commitments in the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement, the World Trade Organization, and Vietnam’s efforts to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
- Served as country co-coordinator for Vietnam in ASEAN project of harmonization of legal infrastructure for e-commerce.
