Tokunari Otake is a consultant in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group. Tokunari has more than a decade’s worth of experience handling Japanese patents in fields including chemical, control systems, electrical, and mechanical engineering; pharmaceuticals; robotics; software; and sensors. He assists clients with both incoming and outgoing international patent applications, and he regularly provides counsel for infringement analysis, patent searches, patent specification drafting, and a range of matters related to patent registration. Tokunari is a qualified Japanese patent attorney, and he is able to translate and work with patents in both Japanese and English.
Tokunari previously worked as a chemical process engineer at a major Japanese chemical company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Throughout his eight years working at this company, he amassed a tremendous amount of experience in new chemical processes, design projects, logistics, operations, and developing technologies from invention to commercialization. Tokunari has a hazardous materials engineering license and a high-pressure gas production safety management license, and he obtained both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in management science from the Tokyo University of Science.
