Senior Associate, IP Litigation

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is for a key senior lawyer to assist partner(s) in leading and developing IP practice group, particularly in the IP enforcement and IP litigation areas. The lawyer is expected to have strong expertise in litigation and fundamental legal knowledge in IP law and regulations.

Areas of Responsibility

Legal Practice

  • Provide a full range of legal services to protect and enforce clients’ IP rights, including providing advisory opinions, conducting legal research, performing investigations, conducting discovery, liaising with relevant government agencies, negotiating with opposing parties, etc.
  • Handle litigation, prosecution, registration, enforcement of IP rights and other case assignments.
  • Analyze and determine the legal strategy in cases to ensure effective and successful negotiation, litigation, prosecution, registration, IP enforcement; draft pleadings; prepare briefs and legal arguments; rehear witness testimony before a court.
  • Interview, select, and prepare witnesses, including experts for administrative hearing or trial.
  • Argue motions and participate in pre-trial or pre-hearing conferences.
  • Conduct direct and cross-examination and oral argument in proceedings before appropriate jurisdictional body, which may include jury trials.
  • Review records and prepare briefs and oral arguments in appeals to Supreme Court or other appellate body; prepare memoranda; analyze factual and legal issues; and draft decisions in proceedings.
  • Formulate legal strategies, provide legal opinions and analytical responses to clients, respond to inquiries, develop legal guides, complete questionnaires, and act as the primary point of contact for clients.
  • Perform legal research when and as necessary to resolve legal issues and determine the appropriate course of action regarding a particular issue/case.

 

 

Client Development and Work and Relationships Management

  • Take initiative in designing and implementing business development and marketing plans for Intellectual Property practice group for Thailand office and the firm’s overseas offices in the region.
  • Regularly publish articles and give presentations that increase the firm’s visibility, which results in new business opportunities.
  • Participate in crafting proposals and pitch for new business from current or prospective clients.
  • Identify and participate in relevant conferences as agreed partner(s)/department heads.
  • Take full ownership of work with minimal oversight from partner(s).
  • Effectively and efficiently manage projects and matters well.

Mentoring

  • Mentor associates and help them in developing legal skills, work management, and client relationships. 

Administrative Tasks

  • Manage other administrative tasks in professional and timely manners such as time recording, invoicing, billing and chasing aged-debt, matter opening, conflicts of interest, etc. 

Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualified Thai lawyer with exceptional academic background.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a litigator in Thailand.
  • Knowledge of IP law and regulations.
  • Experience in IP litigation and enforcement work in Thailand.
