On May 6, 2020, Athistha Chitranukroh, partner and director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial group, participated in a panel discussion on the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), organized by the NIA Academy of Thailand’s National Innovation Agency (NIA). The panel session focused on the reach of the new law, which was passed nearly a year ago and is expected to take effect at the end of May, 2020.
Athistha was joined by legal experts from Chulalongkorn University and Kasem Bundit University, as well as a moderator from the NIA. Together the panelists explored various use cases and considered the applicability of the PDPA in different business-related scenarios. In doing so the speakers made clear the extent of the law and the expected effects it will have on business activities. Finally, the panel also discussed the risks of noncompliance, and how entrepreneurs can protect themselves and their operations against violation of the law’s provisions.
This Thai-language panel was broadcast on Facebook Live to a large audience, and the video is archived and available for viewing on the NIA Academy Facebook page.
