Bangkok Post: Thailand’s Upgraded USTR IP Watch List Status

Bangkok Post

Wiramrudee Mokkhavesa and Alec Wheatley, attorney-at-law and consultant respectively in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group, have been quoted extensively in a recent Bangkok Post  article regarding the US Trade Representative (USTR)’s removal of Thailand from its Priority Watch List (PWL).

“Thailand’s upgraded status is an acknowledgment by the USTR that the country’s efforts to update its IP legislation for the 21st century are proceeding in the right direction,” Wiramrudee is quoted as saying. Alec provides context to support this, with a detailed explanation of the USTR’s role and its system for designating states based on their favorability to U.S. IP rights holders.

The article also draws heavily on input from Wiramrudee and Alec to provide an overview of the measures that have led to the improved standing, and the impact which they are likely to have on the economic and technological development of the country.

The article, first published in the newspaper on December 22, 2017, is also available on the Bangkok Post’s website.
