On August 29, Dr. Atthachai Homhuan, manager of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regulatory affairs practice, will be speaking at the CannaBiz Invest Asia Summit in a session entitled “Understanding the Medical Cannabis Investment Landscape & Regulatory Hurdles in Thailand.”
The recent liberalization of medical cannabis under Thai law has created a window for investment in the jurisdiction which medical practitioners, life science industry companies, and investors have shown a strong interest in exploring at all levels of the supply chain. However, cannabinoid products remain tightly regulated, and any potential investors in the industry must be acutely aware of the regulatory framework in which they must operate.
Dr. Atthachai’s presentation will provide a thorough introduction to the regulations, including an analysis of who can invest, the value chain for participation, licensing and permit requirements, and the authorities from which approval is required before commercial activities can commence. He will also be dissecting the regulations covering imports of seeds and crops, cultivation, extraction and refining, and distribution, as well as the intellectual property considerations for investors in Thailand’s fledgling cannabis industry.
The two-day event will be held at the Holiday Inn Bangkok Sukhumvit on August 29 and 30, and will feature industry-leading speakers from across Asia and around the world to shed light on what this rapidly developing industry means for Asia’s life science industry.
