John Frangos Discusses Aviation Regulator’s Plan to Deregister Leased Aircraft in Thailand

GTDT Aviation Law News

John Frangos, consultant in the dispute resolution group at Tilleke & Gibbins, was interviewed by GTDT Aviation Law News  for his insights into the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand’s recent renewed efforts to tackle deliberate default on lease agreements by certain domestic charter airlines.

In an article titled “Thai Regulator Set to Revoke Leased Aircraft Registration,” John said, “Some smaller Thai-registered charter carriers have defaulted on their aircraft lease agreements and then continue to try and hold on to the aircraft after lease termination and, in some cases, after deregistration. These actions adversely affect service and safety, and of course damage the aircraft leasing companies who own the assets.”

John’s views on aviation law were sought shortly after the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand issued an announcement stating that it would revoke the registration of leased aircraft used by Thai-registered charter airlines that are involved in litigation with foreign lessor companies over delayed rental payments.
