In a research project to celebrate Pride Month 2020, World Trademark Review (WTR) recently set out to explore the landscape of diversity and inclusion initiatives in law firms across Asia, culminating in an article in the magazine’s July edition. In discussing the activity of firms that are proactively pushing forward diversity and inclusion in Asia, WTR specifically highlighted Tilleke & Gibbins’ unique approach across the firm’s offices in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. In particular, the article observes that “[T]he firm itself ‘acts as a unified diversity initiative, supporting each employee equally’ because it is aware that firm-wide or office-wide initiatives assume an unequal starting point.” Notably, the article also recognizes Tilleke & Gibbins’ 2006 decision to become the first law firm in the region to appoint a chief values officer.
