On July 21, 2011, the Tilleke & Gibbins Textile Collection will host a seminar on “Tai Ceremonial Textiles and their Uses.” Consulting Curator Dr. Linda S. McIntosh will discuss various types of textiles produced by Tai Yuan weavers originating from northern and central Thailand. The Tai Yuan is the most populous group of the Kingdom’s northern region, and Tai Yuan communities are found in numerous provinces, including Chiang Mai, Phrae, Lampang, Uttaradit, Saraburi, and Ratchaburi. The talk will briefly discuss the history of the Tai Yuan, using textiles from the Collection and field photographs to highlight the presentation.
The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and it is open to the public at no charge. For more information or to book a seat at the event, please contact Dr. Linda S. McIntosh at [email protected].
