On September 25, 2020, two attorneys from Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property department will speak on options for enforcing trademarks and combating online counterfeits in Thailand at a webinar hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (BCCT). Suebsiri Taweepon, partner, and Ploynapa Julagasigorn, attorney-at-law, will discuss legal options for trademark owners in their presentation, titled “Fighting Counterfeiting Online: Enforcing Trademarks by Computer Crime Act.”
Using the Computer Crime Act against online trademark infringement is a strategy pioneered recently by Tilleke & Gibbins, which worked with officers from Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property to secure the shutdown of various websites infringing the trademark of a client. This new option is gaining strong interest from brand owners for its effectiveness and efficiency in putting a stop to online trademark infringement.
Suebsiri and Ploynapa will present on the firm’s experience of using the Computer Crime Law for enforcement of trademark rights against online infringement, and explain how trademark owners can take advantage of this option now that it has been proven successful and effective.
