Dr. Linda S. McIntosh, Consulting Curator of the Tilleke & Gibbins Textile Collection, presents the history and mission of the Collection to members of the now-defunct Textile Society of Hong Kong. The geographic scope is discussed since the Collection aims to house textiles with ties to mainland Southeast Asia, mainly Thailand. Thailand is a culturally diverse nation and has had close ties with its neighbors for centuries. Examples from the various Tai ethnic groups living in Thailand and other parts of the region have been collected. Textiles of non-Tai groups, such as Khmer, Malay, and Burmese, are also part of the Collection.
