Biography

Patthama Chainok is a consultant in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Vientiane office. She advises clients on the full range of intellectual property matters in Laos, including providing preliminary opinions, analyses, and review of trademark and patent applications, overseeing registration, managing portfolios, and supporting enforcement work.

Patthama regularly liaises with the Lao Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) in both registration and enforcement work for clients, in addition to supporting the firm’s Bangkok office by providing her expertise on Lao intellectual property laws and regulations. She received training from the Lao DIP on patent claims procedures, and amendments to Laos’ intellectual property laws.

Prior to joining Tilleke & Gibbins, Patthama worked at the information technology subsidiary of a major oil and gas company in Thailand. She is fluent in Thai, Lao, and English.

Experience

  • Assisted a multinational company in obtaining the very first patent certificate granted under the Cooperation for facilitating Patent Grant (CPG) between the Lao Department of Intellectual Property and the Japan Patent Office.
  • Assisted a number of prominent brand owners in trademark cancellation matters, which were once relatively uncommon but are increasing in Laos.
  • Supported enforcement work for famous brands, including conducting investigations, market surveys, and anticounterfeiting campaigns, as well as liaising with authorities.
