Hani Wulanhandari, a trademark executive at Tilleke & Gibbins’ office in Jakarta, shared her views on intellectual property registration developments in Indonesia for an article in Asia IP  magazine.

The article is built around Hani’s insights into the latest changes and updates from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP)—especially the steps taken by the DGIP to help intellectual property owners through the difficulties of the current global health crisis. Hani explained that moves such as the DGIP’s full embrace of an online system for filing have had positive effects and are helping to build awareness of intellectual property rights in Indonesia.

These changes have led to an increase in the number of IP filings compared to a year ago. This took many by surprise, but Hani notes that the improvements made by the DGIP should continue to encourage owners to register their intellectual property in Indonesia.
